African Safari

Guests who take this tour usually stay at Camp Intrepid; it is an outstanding campsite, which has a friendly staff and fantastic food. Tourists sleep in tents at the camp, but they are nothing like the collapsible shelters that are used by boy scouts. These tents are similar to hotel rooms; each one has a shower that produces hot water, a toilet, electricity and a cozy bed. This particular campground is located near a river, and the river is the crocodiles’ and hippos’ “stomping ground”. Sometimes, the hippopotamuses will walk from the river to the camping area and roam around the tents. They are not a huge threat; however, it is wise to stay indoors until they leave the camping ground.

Shortly after you get to your room at Camp Intrepid, the flight part of the African safari begins. This part of the tour is not long; however, you will see various animals while in the air. As the plane flies over the plains and the mountains of Africa, you will need some powerful binoculars to see the animals below on land. As for the flight itself; it is very smooth, so you will feel comfortable during the entire time. After the airplane portion of the tour, you get to return to the campsite for an amazing dinner.

The food that the staff serves at Camp Intrepid is terrific; everything tastes like a gourmet restaurant meal. The drinks, however, are a bit expensive and many guests choose to drink water. Once dinner is over, you should go to bed early because the staff will wake you up the next day at 5:45am for a land safari.

Getting up early to take the land safari will be tough, but it will be well worth it. To help you wake up, someone from the staff will bring you a cup of hot coffee and a biscuit. Everyone has to be ready before 6:30am because this is when the African safari jeep leaves the camp. During the safari, you may see a cheetah chasing its prey in the distance. You will have to be quick with your camera, or you will miss your photo opportunities. You might see elephants during the safari as well, and they are an incredible sight. You will have more chances to take their photo because they will not run away quickly as the other animals do. As you are taking photos, your guide will give you interesting facts about the animals; the information really helps you understand each creature’s behavior. Before you know it, the African safari will be over, but you will have plenty of astounding pictures to remind you of the trip.
