An African safari is a trip meant for those who truly enjoy an adventure.  But before you make your trip to an African nation, it is very important to become familiar with the environment and the safety.

Before visiting an African nation make sure that you have plenty of information about the country that you'll be visiting, this includes the traditions of the country and the security concerns.  This essential information can be found in a travel guide or a directory.  But even though this comes in handy you still should stay up to date with the political changes and current issues in the country.

It is also a good idea to scan your passport on your computer, write it down somewhere and even remember it just in case you lose it.  Also remember to photocopy any official documents that you will be taking with you, scan them and then email them to your self so you can reference to them anytime and anywhere you are.  There are Internet cafes through out most African nations, so you won't have any problems accessing your documents.

Health is very important before going on any vacation.  If you have an illness such as high blood pressure, diabetes, nervous disorder etc.  You should check with your doctor about medication you might need before going on the trip and a letter of explanation about your illness.  It is also a good idea to see your dentist before going on your trip.

When you're packing your bags, remember to take a medical kit with you and make sure it includes, bandages, pain killers and bug repellents.  If you or your children require medication make sure you get enough prescribed to last you the whole trip.

Insurance coverage is also essential on your trip.  It is important to have insurance coverage just in case you become sick while on your safari.  There are some insurance companies out there who specialize in overseas travel insurance and will allow you to buy short-term insurance for your trip, so it's a good idea to check that out.

Once again check out the political situation in the country that you will be attending and also psychologically prepare your self for the trip.  There are websites online that will give you tips on this information.  Also check out the transportation quality of the nation that you will be attending.

When taking a credit card with you remember to set a limit on it so just in case it's lost or stolen nobody can charge it up.

Clothing is also an important thing, research the weather conditions and the climate of the country before you decide to pack a whole bunch of sweat pants and T-shirts into your travel bag.  If you'll be having a safari operator, it would be a good idea to contact that person and ask them what clothing is best for the trip.

Ask how the uniforms of the local police look, so you're not dressed similar to them.  Once you arrive in your country of destination, don't just hop in a taxi, but remember to check the taxi driver for id to make sure he/she is an official taxi driver.

The last and most important tip of all, is to have fun.  Enjoy the beauty of
Africa, the people, the food, the animals and most of all your trip.
